NGC 7172 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Southern Pisces. It is estimated to be 118 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years across. Together with NGC 7173 , NGC 7174 and NGC 7176 it forms the Hickson Compact Group 90 .
The object was discovered on September 23, 1834 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
