from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Principal Galaxies Catalog (PGC) is an astronomical catalog for galaxies . The catalog is also known under the abbreviation LEDA.

The version published in 1989 by astronomers from Lyon and Meudon contained 73,197 objects with information such as: B. on position, morphological classification, apparent brightness , radial velocity and identification in other galaxy catalogs. By 2003 the PGC was expanded to 983,261 galaxies brighter than the 18th magnitude and transferred to the HYPERLEDA database.

An electronic version is available from the Vizier Service of the Center de Données astronomiques de Strasbourg .
