Center de Données astronomiques de Strasbourg

The Center de Données astronomiques de Strasbourg ( CDS ; German  " Astronomical Data Center of Strasbourg " ) is an institute in Strasbourg that operates several astronomical databases and makes them accessible worldwide via the Internet. It used to be known as the Center de Données Stellaires , the new name reflects the scope of duties that have been expanded beyond the stars. The CDS is subordinate to the Center national de la recherche scientifique and at the University of Strasbourg belonging Strasbourg Observatory located. This includes the following databases:

  • The SIMBAD database contains properties and references to celestial objects, mainly in our Milky Way .
  • The VizieR database offers astronomers central and homogeneous access to many catalogs and data collections from the astronomical literature.
