Lyons Groups of Galaxies

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lyons Groups of Galaxies (or LGG ) is an astronomical catalog of nearby galaxy groups completely down to an apparent brightness m B0 = 14.0 m and escape speeds less than 5,500 km / s .

method

Two different methods of group assignment were used when creating the catalog:

A filtering method developed by Huchra and Geller and a hierarchical method first used by R. Brent Tully . The catalog is the combination of the results of both methods.

scope

The LGG contains 485 groups and 3,933 galaxies .
