Raincourt is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Raincourt is at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, four kilometers north-northwest of Jussey and about 33 kilometers northwest of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the far north-west of the department, slightly elevated between the lowlands of Mance in the west and Saône in the east, on the southern edge of the height of the Donnet .
The area of the 8.28 km² municipal area comprises a section of the gently undulating landscape west of the upper Saône valley. The southwestern border mostly runs along the Mance, which flows here with several turns through an alluvial lowland about 1.5 kilometers wide to the east. The floodplain lies at an average of 220 m and is mainly used for agriculture. From the course of the river, the community area extends northeast over the valley floodplain to the adjacent, slightly undulating landscape with the heights of La Caillouse (up to 242 m) in the east and Donnet in the north. Raincourt's highest elevation is reached on its southern roof at 321 m. The western boundary is the Ruisseau de la Jacquenelle , a left tributary of the Mance. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the terrain consists of alternating layers of sandy-marl and calcareous sediments, which were mainly deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). In some places shell limestone from the Triassic comes to light.
Neighboring communities of Raincourt are Blondefontaine and Villars-le-Pautel in the north, Betaucourt in the east, Jussey in the south and Cemboing in the west.
history
Remains of a Roman aqueduct indicate an early settlement of the area. Raincourt is first mentioned in the 12th century under the names Rencort and Rehencort . In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . It formed a fiefdom that was dependent on the reign of Jonvelle . In 1569 the place was devastated by Protestants from Montbéliard. Together with Franche-Comté , Raincourt finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Raincourt is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays Jusséen, which comprises 17 localities .
