Cerre-lès-Noroy is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Cerre-lès-Noroy is located at an altitude of 330 m above sea level, about twelve kilometers east of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, in a wide hollow at the eastern foot of the heights of Champfleury.

The area of the municipality of 9.96 km² covers a section in the undulating landscape between the basin of Vesoul in the west and the plain of Lure in the east. The central part of the area is occupied by the basin of the Ruisseau de l'Étang , which averages 320 m and has a width of about two kilometers. It is mainly used for agriculture. The two rivers, the Ruisseau de l'Étang and its tributary Ruisseau de Prays , topographically belong to the catchment area of the Linotte . However, the stream seeps south of the village.

The Cerre basin is flanked by ridges that are predominantly forested: Mont de Cerre rises to the east and Champfleury to the west , on which the highest point of Cerre-lès-Noroy is reached at 438 m. To the south, the municipal area extends over a saddle into the forest regions of Bois du Replan , Bois de l'Engorgié and Bois de la Combe Sédéra and to the edge of the basin of Vallerois. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the Cerre basin consists of alternating layers of sandy-marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). The heights are made up of a resistant layer of limestone from the middle Jurassic period .

Neighboring municipalities of Cerre-lès-Noroy are Noroy-le-Bourg in the west and north, Autrey-lès-Cerre and Borey in the east and Vallerois-le-Bois in the south.

history

Cerre is mentioned for the first time in 1164 in a document from the Archbishops of Besançon. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . Together with Franche-Comté , Cerre finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Cerre-lès-Noroy is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Grands Bois, which comprises 12 localities .

Attractions

Saint-Maurice Church

The Saint-Maurice church was rebuilt in 1766 and has a Gothic cross for processions, a statue of Saint Maurice (16th / 17th century) and furniture from the 18th century. There is a small castle at the eastern entrance to the village. The fountains of Cerre-lès-Noroy are also worth seeing: the Fontaine de l'Église (built in 1801) with a large, semicircular water basin, the Fontaine d'Au Pont (1870) and the Fontaine de la Hye (1884).

With 233 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Cerre-lès-Noroy is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (362 people were counted in 1881), only slight fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1960s. In recent years there has been a slight increase in population.

Economy and Infrastructure

Cerre-lès-Noroy was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry until well into the 20th century. The hydropower of the Ruisseau de l'Étang was previously used to operate a mill. Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many employed people are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration of Vesoul.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Noroy-le-Bourg to Vallerois-le-Bois. Another road connection is with Autrey-lès-Cerre.
