After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 160 and 240 people, a clear population decline was recorded, especially during the 1970s. In recent years, however, slight population growth has been observed again.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Sauvigney-lès-Pesmes was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses, including wood processing. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main D475 road from Dole to Gray via Pesmes . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 19 km away. Other road links exist with La Résie-Saint-Martin and Aubigney.
