This consists of limestone layers from the Upper Jurassic , lies at around 280 m and is partly covered with arable land and meadow, partly with forest. In the west, the community soil extends into the forest of the Bois Lajus , in which the highest elevation of Besnans is reached at 308 m.

Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Besnans is a member of the community association Pays de Montbozon et du Chanois, which comprises 21 localities .

With 79 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Besnans is one of the smallest communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (113 people were still counted in 1901), slight population growth has been recorded since the beginning of the 1990s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Besnans was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are very few jobs in the village. In the meantime, the place has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The place is off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Montbozon to Maussans.
