Coulevon is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Coulevon is located at an altitude of 225 m above sea level, about three kilometers northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, in the valley at the confluence of the Bâtard in the Durgeon , at the northern foot of the plateau of the Sabot.

The area of the 2.66 km² municipal area includes a section in the area of the hill country between the basin of Vesoul and the plain of Lure. From north to south the area is crossed by the valley of the Bâtard, which flows into the Durgeon at Coulevon. This provides drainage to the Saône . It flows here with several turns through an approximately one kilometer wide flood plain, which is on average 220 m. In sections it marks the southern border. To the east of the village is a cave (3 to 4 m high and around 20 m long).

The valley of the Bâtard is flanked on both sides by hills, which consist of alternating layers of sandy-marl and calcareous sediments from the lower and middle Jurassic periods . To the west of the Bâtard rises the summit of the Soufflotis (285 m), to the east a plateau extends. Below the Fanicamp , Coulevon's highest point is reached at 296 m. The area is mainly used for agriculture.

The settlement of Montciel (225 m) south of the Durgeon belongs to Coulevon . Neighboring municipalities of Coulevon are Villeparois and Colombier in the north, Comberjon in the east, Frotey-lès-Vesoul in the south and Vesoul and Pusy-et-Épenoux in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Coulevon belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The local rulership was held by the Viscounts of Vesoul. Marteroy Priory also owned land in the village. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Coulevon is a member of the 19 localities community association Communauté de communes de l'agglomération de Vesoul .

Attractions

The chapel of Coulevon was rebuilt in the 19th century. For facilities include a high altar, statues, a painting by Jules-Alexis Muenier and a remarkable bas-relief from the 15th century.

The castle in the center of the village was the residence of the painter Muenier.

Above Coulevon there is a statue of the Blessed Virgin.

Since then, there has been another slight downward trend.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Coulevon was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Today there are some local small-scale businesses, including a plasterworks. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the Vesoul agglomeration.

The place is well developed in terms of traffic. It is close to the main road N57 that runs from Vesoul to Remiremont . Another road connection is with Villeparois. Coulevon is connected to the city of Vesoul by a bus line.
