Comberjon is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Comberjon is located at an altitude of 244 m above sea level, about five kilometers northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, slightly elevated in a niche on the southern slope of the Durgeon valley , at the northern foot of the Bois de Frotey plateau.

The area of the municipal area of 3.57 km² covers a section in the area of the hill country between the basin of Vesoul and the plain of Lure. From northeast to southwest the area is crossed by the valley of the Durgeon, which provides drainage to the Saône . The stream flows here with several turns through a 500 meter wide flood plain, which is on average 220 m.

The valley is flanked on the northwest side by the height of the Fanicamp . To the south-east, the community soil extends over a steep slope to the plateau of the Bois de Frotey . It consists of resilient limestone from the middle Jurassic period . The highest point in Comberjon is reached in the Bois de Frotey at 383 m. While the valley is used for agriculture, forest dominates the plateau.

Neighboring municipalities of Comberjon are Colombier in the north, Montcey in the east, Frotey-lès-Vesoul in the south and Coulevon in the west.

history

Comberjon is first mentioned in a document in 1316. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . The lords of Montaigu held local rule. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. A change of area took place in 1808 when Comberjon merged with the neighboring municipality of Colombier to form the municipality of Colombier-et-Comberjon. Both communities have been independent again since 1842. Today Comberjon is a member of the 19 localities community association Communauté de communes de l'agglomération de Vesoul .

With 161 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Comberjon is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (186 people were still counted in 1896), population growth was recorded again from 1968 to 2000. Since then, there has been another slight downward trend.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Comberjon was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the Vesoul agglomeration.

The place is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main N57 road from Vesoul to Remiremont . Another road connection is with Montcey. Comberjon has a train station on the railway line from Belfort to Vesoul. Part of the slopes of the Vesoul-Frotey regional airport on the Bois de Frotey plateau is located in the municipality.
