Sainte-Reine was part of the Campagne dominion, the center of which was Igny. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The community does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish of Igny.

With 31 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Sainte-Reine is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the number of inhabitants had decreased significantly during the 20th century (120 people were still counted in 1886), slight population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1990s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Sainte-Reine was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The place is off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from La Chapelle-Saint-Quillain to Seveux. There are other road connections with Igny and Motey-sur-Saône.
