Chargey-lès-Port is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Chargey-lès-Port is located at an altitude of 275 m above sea level, seven kilometers northwest of Port-sur-Saône and about 17 kilometers northwest of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, on a south-east exposed slope west of the Saône Valley , at the eastern foot of the heights of the Bois de Chargey .
The area of the 13.05 km² municipal area includes a section in the area of the upper Saône valley. The eastern part of the municipality is taken up by a gently undulating landscape that gradually descends to the east to the alluvial lowland of the Saône. Agricultural use predominates in this part. To the west, an approximately 60 m high step leads over to the wooded heights of the Bois de Chargey and the Bois de Scey , which form the edge of the plateau of Combeaufontaine. At 376 m, the highest point of Chargey-lès-Pont is reached on a knoll in the Bois de Chargey. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the heights consist of a resistant limestone layer from the middle Jurassic period , while in the eastern part of the municipality an alternating layer of sandy, marly and calcareous sediments of the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ) emerges. There are no surface rivers in the entire municipal area because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.
Neighboring municipalities of Chargey-lès-Port are Purgerot in the north, Conflandey in the east, Port-sur-Saône and Scey-sur-Saône-et-Saint-Albin in the south and Arbecey in the west.
history
Remains from the Gallo-Roman period indicate a very early settlement of the area. Chargey was first mentioned in a document in 1209. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont area . The local aristocratic de Chargey family has been documented since the early 13th century. Since then, Cherlieu Monastery has held ecclesiastical sovereignty and owned various goods in the village. Together with Franche-Comté , Chargey finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Chargey-lès-Port is a member of the community association Communauté de communes de la Saône Jolie, which comprises 16 localities .
Attractions
The village church of Chargey-lès-Port was rebuilt in the 18th century. The remarkable furnishings include a crucifix from the 16th century, the statue of Saint Anne and the Virgin (17th century) and the pulpit and altar from the 18th century.
There are five calvaries in the village, the oldest of which is dated 1622.
The lavoir , which once served as a wash house and cattle trough, was built in 1822 and renovated in 1992.

Economy and Infrastructure
Chargey-lès-Port was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry until well into the 20th century. Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many employed people are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration of Vesoul.
The place is away from the major thoroughfares near a department road that leads from Port-sur-Saône to Jussey . Another road connection is with Conflandey.
