With 484 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Charmoille is one of the smaller communes in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (in 1891 there were still 216 people), a marked increase in population was recorded, especially during the 1970s. During this time, the population has tripled. After a temporary slight downward trend, a population increase has been observed again since 2000.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Charmoille was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Today there are some local small businesses, especially a food industry and a car repair shop. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the Vesoul agglomeration.
The place is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main road N19, which leads from Belfort via Vesoul to Langres . The N19 has been expanded to four lanes in the Charmoille area and relieves the village center of through traffic. Another road connection is with Faverney .
