Grandvelle-et-le-perrenot is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Grandvelle-et-le-Perrenot is located at an altitude of 233 m above sea level, 17 kilometers southwest of Vesoul and about 31 kilometers north of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the center of the department, in the Saône basin , in a basin of the Romaine , on the north-western edge of the hill country between Saône and Ognon .

The area of the 10.44 km² municipal area includes a section of the undulating landscape southeast of the Saône . The area is naturally divided into two parts. The larger northern part is occupied by the Saône basin with a weak relief, which is made up partly of tertiary sediments, partly of younger deposits from the rivers, so-called alluvions . The area is drained by the Romaine, which flows through a roughly one kilometer wide lowland to the west. To the north, the community area extends to the adjacent tertiary plateau, which is an average of 250 m and is partly wooded, partly with arable land and meadows.

To the south-east the terrain gradually rises to the hills of Mailley, which lies between the river valleys of Saône and Ognon. From a geological point of view, this part consists of calcareous and sandy-marl layers from the middle and upper Jurassic period . The wooded heights of Le Chaillolet (362 m) and Bois du Mont , on which the highest point of Grandvelle-et-le-Perrenot is reached at 436 m, are located on the communal soil.

The municipality consists of the main town Grandvelle (233 m) in the valley of the Romaine, the hamlet Le Perrenot (260 m) on the plateau north of the village and some farms. Neighboring communities of Grandvelle-et-le-Perrenot are Rosey in the north, Mailley-et-Chazelot in the east, Maizières in the south and Bourguignon-lès-la-Charité , Lieffrans and Neuvelle-lès-la-Charité in the west.

history

The municipal area of Grandvelle was settled very early, which was proven by the remains of a Gallo-Roman settlement and Burgundian burial grounds. In the Middle Ages Grandvelle belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont area . The fiefdom of Grandvelle went in 1294 to the Lords of Traves and in 1527 to Nicolas Perrenot , a chancellor of Charles V. In 1549 he founded the village of Le Perrenot, which was named after him. In 1555, Grandvelle was made a marquisate.

Together with Franche-Comté , Grandvelle finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In 1806 the previously independent municipalities of Grandvelle and Le Perrenot merged to form the dual municipality of Grandvelle-et-Perrenot . The parish was officially renamed Grandvelle-et-le-Perrenot in 1962. Since 2009, the municipality has been a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais, comprising 33 localities .

Since around 2000, the population has continued to grow.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Grandvelle-et-le-Perrenot was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The place is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main road D474, which leads from Gray via Gy to Vesoul. The village center is relieved of transit traffic through a bypass. Further road connections exist with Fresne-Saint-Mamès , Rioz and Neuvelle-lès-la-Charité.
