Ignatius Conrad
Ignatius Conrad OSB (baptized name: Nikolaus ; born November 15, 1846 in Auw ; † March 13, 1926 in Baldegg ) was 1st Abbot of New Subiaco, USA.
Short biography
Nikolaus Conrad was born into a religious farming family of 15. He started high school in Engelberg and entered Einsiedeln Abbey in 1868 . In 1871 he became a priest like four of his brothers. Ignatius Conrad worked for a short time at the convent school and followed his brother Frowin Conrad to Conception in the USA. From 1878 to 1892 he was pastor at the Cathedral of St. Joseph (Missouri) . In 1892, Father Ignaz was elected first abbot of New Subiaco Monastery in Arkansas. On his home trip he died in 1926 in Baldegg Monastery.
