  • 1964 : Young New Yorker Kitty Genovese is stabbed to death by Winston Moseley near her apartment in Queens. The circumstances of her murder, which lasted over half an hour and is observed by 38 people, but who do not intervene, shape the term Genovese syndrome .
  • 1980 : Known as the "killer clown", serial killer John Wayne Gacy is sentenced to 21 life imprisonment and 12 death penalty for killing 33 people in Illinois, USA . It is the longest sentence ever imposed in the United States.
  • 1996 : The gunman Thomas Hamilton kills 16 first-year students and their teacher with a revolver in revenge in Dunblane, Scotland . Then the perpetrator shoots himself with a gun.
  • 2016 : At least 34 people are killed and 125 injured in a bomb attack in the Turkish capital Ankara
