John Holmes (porn actor)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Holmes aka Johnny Wadd , actually John Curtis Estes (born August 8, 1944 in Ashville , Ohio , † March 13, 1988 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American porn actor .

Life

Early life

John Holmes grew up as the youngest of five children. His mother, Mary Estes, a devout Baptist , married Edward Holmes in 1946, whose family name he adopted. His stepfather was manic-depressive and alcoholic . From 1948, Holmes attended Millport Chapel Church Sunday School for twelve years, in 1960 he joined the US Army and was stationed in Nuremberg . In 1963 he left the military and married a nurse in August 1965.

Career as a porn actor

After his wedding, Holmes worked, among other things, as a forklift driver in a meat factory. However, due to health problems, he was looking for a more suitable job. According to his wife Sharon, a man asked him in a public toilet whether he wanted to become a porn actor, which Holmes decided to do in 1968. According to his agent, the story of a degree was fictitious, and Holmes himself is said to have spread it in interviews.

Holmes began his porn film career in 1969 and continued it until shortly before his death. He played in around 1,750 films, many of which were shot in just one day. He had sexual intercourse with several thousand women and numerous men in front of the camera and outside of the film business ; according to our own, presumably greatly exaggerated, estimates with around 14,000 women. Far more realistic estimates are around 3,000.

He also appeared under numerous other pseudonyms , including John Duval , John Fallus , John Rey and Big John , in German-speaking countries he was also nicknamed "Mister 33 centimeters" after the alleged length of his member. Most of the time, however, he used the alias "Johnny Wadd".

Drug addiction, crime, AIDS

During his porn star and gigolo career in the 1970s, he was spending his money as quickly as he was making it, mostly on drugs. Towards the end of the decade, his sexual potency deteriorated noticeably from his drug addiction, and Holmes was unable to find film roles as a result. He financed himself by breaking into houses and cars and by working as a drug courier.

In 1981 he is said to have been a witness or accomplice in a quadruple murder in the drug milieu of the Laurel Canyon residential area ; In 1982 he was acquitted of the murder charge. The murder was not solved until 2000: the nightclub owner Eddie Nash pleaded guilty in court. Holmes is said to have persuaded the murdered to break into Nash's house and supported it. The events were filmed in 2003 with Val Kilmer under the title Wonderland .

After that, Holmes tried in vain to overcome his drug addiction and got back into the porn film business. In 1985 he was diagnosed with AIDS . He hid the diagnosis as much as possible and continued to make sex films until shortly before his death.

In 1987 he married the porn actress Laurie Rose (Misty Dawn) in the Little Chapel of the Flowers in Las Vegas .

reception

The life of John Holmes served as a template for the feature films Boogie Nights and Wonderland . The biographical documentary WADD - The Life & Times of John C. Holmes gives insights into his real life through interviews with Holmes himself and numerous contemporary witnesses.

On the Boogie Nights Arthaus Premium Edition DVD , a half-hour documentary (from around 1982) about John Holmes can be seen as an Easter Egg . This revue covers Holmes' background, attitudes towards women and sex, and the public's opinion of the porn industry.

Trivia

Holmes was the first superstar in the history of porn film. The alleged length of his penis ("Mister 33 centimeters") and his legendary potency ("the all-time world's greatest") contributed to this, as did the almost unbelievable number of porn films in which he is said to have acted (around 1750 titles apply as proven; some reports also speak of more than 2,000 porn films). He was the only porn actor to date to receive an obituary in the New York Times, as well as in several other major media outlets.

He wore a certain variation of a male mustache ( mustache ), characterized by a short shaved and thin shape. In the 1970s this became a common way of shaving male porn actors , which was largely shaped by Holmes. Colloquially, this type of mustache was referred to by the term porn bar , which was widely known at times .

The German porn actor Steve Holmes chose his stage name based on John Holmes.
