André Téchiné (born March 13, 1943 in Valence , Midi-Pyrénées , France ) is a French screenwriter and film director .

Life

André Téchiné worked, among other things, as a critic for the Cahiers du cinéma (1964–1967) before he began making films himself. He made his debut film in 1970 with Paulina haut ab . Téchiné shot with well-known actors such as Isabelle Huppert , Catherine Deneuve , Juliette Binoche , Isabelle Adjani , Emmanuelle Béart and Daniel Auteuil . In 1985 he was honored as the best director for his film Rendez-Vous at the Cannes International Film Festival and in 1995 he received the César as best director for Wild Hearts . In 1999 he was also a member of the jury in Cannes.

In 2003 his work was awarded the Prix ​​René Clair .

After Die refugees (2003) and Changing Times (2004), Téchiné came back after a three-year break with We were witnesses (2007). The film had its world premiere in the competition at the 57th Berlinale .

In 2011 he was appointed to the competition jury of the 68th Venice International Film Festival .

In 2016, Téchiné received an invitation to compete at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival for his feature film Mit Seventeen, written together with Celine Sciamma , starring Kacey Mottet Klein , Corentin Fila , Sandrine Kiberlain and Alexis Loret .
