Wild hearts (Original title: Les Roseaux sauvages ) is an award-winning film from the French director André Téchiné from 1994.

The film tells of growing up in France at the time of the Algerian War in the early 1960s. The boarding school student Serge, a farmer's son whose brother has to go to war, from François, a dreamy bookworm, from Henri, a defiant Frenchman from Algeria, and from Maïté, the daughter of a psychologically unstable socialist teacher who lives outside. The friendship between François and Maïté remains platonic; However, François discovered his love for Serge. Together they experience the last days of their school days on the idyllic banks of the Garonne and try to come to terms with their problems of a sexual, academic and political nature.

Téchiné shot the original, one-hour version of the film under the title Le Chêne et le Roseau (Eng. Title: The new one ) for the arte series Tous les garçons et les filles de leur âge… . For this series, the television channel had called on various directors (in addition to Téchiné, among others, Chantal Akerman , Olivier Assayas , Claire Denis and Cédric Kahn ) to make films about her youth.

The film-dienst celebrated Téchiné's film in its contemporary criticism as an “autobiographical, authentic portrait of time, milieu and generation that refrains from any sentimentality”. Wilde Herzen convince with his "economical but haunting staging, his precise character drawings and the intensive theatrical interpretation."

Awards

Wilde Herzen received several awards at the César Awards in 1995 . It was awarded as the best film ; André Téchiné received the César for best director and, together with Olivier Massart and Gilles Taurand, the award for the best screenplay . Élodie Bouchez was honored as the best young actress . Stéphane Rideau, Gaël Morel and Frédéric Gorny were nominated for the Best Young Actor award and Michèle Moretti for the Best Supporting Actress category.
