Jeanne Lapoirie (born April 13, 1963 in Saint-Denis ) is a French camerawoman .

Life

Jeanne Lapoirie first grew up in her hometown of Saint-Denis, north of Paris . She later lived with her mother, stepfather and two half-brothers in the then quiet suburbs of Stains and Pierrefitte-sur-Seine . Her mother was born in Spain and moved to France as a child fleeing the Franco regime in 1946. She worked as a Spanish teacher in Sarcelles . Lapoirie's father, who taught sculpture at the École Boulle in Paris, regularly took his daughter to the cinema, where she discovered her passion for film. Lapoirie attended the École Louis-Lumière Film School , where she graduated in 1984. During her senior year at university , she made her first film as a camerawoman with the comedy Argie (1984) by Jorge Blanco, which that same year was part of the selection of the Semaine Internationale de la Critique, a parallel event of the Cannes International Film Festival . After that, Lapoirie first appeared in the mid-1980s as a camera assistant under the direction of filmmakers such as Alain Corneau and Agnès Varda . She was employed as Thierry Arbogast's camera assistant in Luc Besson's thriller Nikita (1990) and then in André Téchiné's productions Ich küsse nicht (1991) and Meine liebeste Saison (1993) . Téchiné, who wanted to turn his back on the old cinema and focused primarily on spontaneity when shooting, finally entrusted her with the camerawork for his film dramas Wilde Herzen (1994) and Diebe der Nacht (1996).

With the film Drops on Hot Stones (2000), which is based on a play by Rainer Werner Fassbinder , Lapoirie's multiple collaborations with the director François Ozon began . For his star-studded crime comedy 8 Women (2002) she received her first nomination for the César in the category Best Cinematography . For Valeria Bruni Tedeschi she then shot her first directorial work Rather a Camel Through the Eye of a Needle… (2003), followed by Actrices - or the dream from the night before (2007), A Castle in Italy (2013) and The Summer House ( 2018) further joint projects followed.

For the Franco-German version of Kleist Michael Kohlhaas (2013) with Mads Mikkelsen in the title role and for the anti- AIDS drama 120 BPM (2017) by Robin Campillo , set in the 1990s - both films competed in Cannes for the Golden Palm part - Lapoirie received two further nominations for the César. She had previously made the two films The Returned (2004) and Eastern Boys - Endstation Paris (2013) with Campillo . Lapoirie's camera work also includes Catherine Corsini's autobiographical film La belle Saison - Eine Sommerliebe (2015) with Cécile de France in the role of a Parisian suffragette who falls in love with a younger country woman during the 1970s, as well as the film drama Lola Pater ( 2017) with Fanny Ardant in the role of a transsexual .

Jeanne Lapoirie is a member of the Association Française des directeurs de la photographie Cinématographique (AFC), an association of French cinematographers.
