Stains is a French commune in the Seine-Saint-Denis in the region of Ile-de-France in Canton Saint-Denis-2 . The inhabitants are called Stanois .
geography
The 5.39 km² large municipal area is practically completely built up, the population density is correspondingly high. The neighboring municipalities are Pierrefitte-sur-Seine , Saint-Denis , La Courneuve and Dugny in the Seine-Saint-Denis department and Garges-lès-Gonesse and Sarcelles in the Val-d'Oise department .

With 38,720 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Stains is one of the medium-sized towns in the Seine-Saint-Denis department. In 1962 the community still had 27,503 inhabitants. After strong growth in the 1960s and 1970s, the population reached its provisional high of 36,079 in 1982, after which it fell slightly and has been rising again since around 2000. Stains is located in a densely populated area in the agglomeration of Paris ( Banlieue ). A large part of the traditional working class community today consists of prefabricated housing estates and a large part of the residents are immigrants from the Maghreb or Sub-Sahara .

traffic
Stains is very well developed in terms of traffic. Local public transport is particularly well developed: Stains is on bus routes 150, 153, 250, 252, 253 and 254 and a night bus from the Noctilien . In addition, S-Bahn stations for the RER B and RER D are in the immediate vicinity (Pierrefitte - Stains train station). There is a project that plans to extend metro line 13 to Stains.
