Garges-lès-Gonesse is a French commune with 42,728 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Île de France region . It is located 15 kilometers from the center of Paris and is part of the Paris agglomeration .

Garges-lès-Gonesse borders in the north on Arnouville , in the east on Bonneuil-en-France , in the south on Dugny , in the south-west on Stains and in the north-west on Sarcelles .

history

Little is known about the origin of the village of Garges. A verifiable mention comes from the year 631, when the Frankish King Dagobert I resided in Paris and made Garges his country seat. At the beginning of the 20th century, the village was gradually industrialized and urbanized , from the 1960s the population structure changed rapidly with the construction of large housing estates in prefabricated construction.

Infrastructure

Garges-lès-Gonesse is served by line 5 of the Paris tram and bus routes of the RATP . The Garges-Sarcelles train station is on the important north-south railway line ( RER D ) for suburban Paris traffic. The Le Bourget airport in the nearby town of Bonneuil-en-France, on the east directly to Garges-les-Gonesse.

Sports

The Garges football club took part in the Coupe de France 1973/74 and 1985/86 . The Chiefs de Garges ice hockey club plays in Division 1 , the second highest division in France.
