The line 5 tram Ile-de-France (T5) is a Tramway sur pneumatiques (tramway on tires) according to the system Translohr that in the line number system of the tram Ile-de-France is integrated. The route runs north of Paris outside the urban area on its own continuous route and connects Saint-Denis with Sarcelles and Garges-lès-Gonesse . The 6.6-kilometer route opened on July 29, 2013. It is the first Translohr route in the Paris area and is operated by RATP .

history

By May 18, 1936 there was already a classic tram in this area , which was operated by STCRP , a predecessor company of RATP. They were discontinued in favor of private transport and the expansion of the Paris bus network . Due to the high volume of traffic of around 50,000 vehicles per day on the route, the construction of the T5 line was approved on October 10, 2000. Between January 12, 2004 and February 13, 2004, the public inquiry into the project was completed. On November 22nd, 2006, the financing agreement for the project was approved by the Syndicat des transports d'Île-de-France (STIF). The laying of the first track guide rail was accompanied by a ceremony on June 30, 2010.

Route

overview

The route runs continuously on a double track on its own route, mainly in the middle and partly in the side position. There are both middle (example: final stop Marché de Saint-Denis) and side platforms (example: final stop Garges - Sarcelles). At the Marché de Saint-Denis station, the trains end butt at the platform directly at the tram stop of the same name on the T1 tram line ; in Garges - Sarcelles the tracks are extended beyond the station as siding. The access to the depot branches off from the main line not far from the Suzanne Valadon station from both directions. Numerous track changes enable trains to be turned outside of the terminals if necessary. All roads are crossed at the same level.

While in Saint-Denis, Rue Gabriel Péri is initially a lively shopping street with older buildings, the other end of the route presents itself as a modern quarter with high apartment blocks. At both ends of the route there are transfer options to other public transport.

15 three-part sets of the Translohr STE 3 type are used . The trains are 25 meters long, 2.20 meters wide and 2.89 meters high. Each unit offers space for 178 people. The average travel speed is given as 18 km / h.,

In the summer of 2016, STIF decided to purchase four more STE 3 trains for the T5 line. Delivery is scheduled for autumn 2017. The costs amount to 13 million euros, a further 7.6 million euros will be needed to expand the depot to accommodate these trains.

Operating times

During rush hour , the trains run every five minutes. The operating hours are daily from 5:30 a.m. to 0:30 a.m., on Fridays, Saturdays and the evenings before public holidays, the end of operation is only 1:30 a.m.

Passenger numbers

Initial estimates, even before the line went into operation, assumed 30,000 to 36,000 passengers a day. But by the end of 2013, 44,000 passengers were counted every day. From January 2014, the frequency will therefore be increased on Sundays and market days. On the mornings in question, the vehicles drive every eight to nine minutes instead of the usual twelve-minute intervals. The passenger association Association des usagers des transports also calls for more journeys during rush hour, which would require additional vehicles.
