Since the completion of the remaining section in May 2016, the 14-kilometer route has connected the municipalities of Châtillon and Viroflay . It mainly serves as a feeder to metro line 13 , with which it is linked at the Châtillon - Montrouge metro station . Since the opening of the two stations in Viroflay, the T6 also offers connections to the RER C and the Transilien lines N and L. After the T5, the T6 is the second Translohr route in the Paris area and is operated by the RATP .

planning

The first agreements with the local authorities involved took place in autumn 2000. Two years later, the STIF gave its general approval. A public hearing was held in the winter of 2003/2004. In December 2006, STIF approved the financial agreements that had since been made.

In February 2009 the line officially received the number T6. At that time, it was assumed that the above-ground section of the line could be put into operation at the end of 2012 and the entire line at the end of 2013.

Three agreements reached between 2007 and 2009 regulate the cost sharing by the various providers: The Ile-de-France region pays 50 percent of the construction costs estimated at 384 million euros, the state 16 percent, and the Hauts-de-Seine department 20 Percent, the Yvelines department 13 percent and the RATP one percent.

The procurement costs for the rolling stock of 135 million euros are borne by STIF. (Based on the costs according to calculations from 2006).

Construction of the above-ground route

Construction work began in 2007 with the relocation of supply lines. In the following year, the actual work on the route began. The means of transport was given its own lane throughout.

This section went into operation on December 13, 2014.

Construction of the tunnel

A 1.6-kilometer section at the western end of the line in Viroflay was designed as a tunnel that runs at a depth of around 20 meters. Construction of the two tunnel stations began in December 2011. The elements of the tunnel boring machine were delivered in March 2012, after assembling and adjusting the machine, the boring work could begin in March 2013. Subsequently, the machine covered 200 meters per month until it reached its destination, namely the Viroflay-Rive Droite station, in the night of January 13-14, 2014.

Since the beginning of May 2016 there has been "la marche à blanc": the vehicles ran on this section without passengers, but according to the timetable. Passenger operations began on May 28, 2016. The official opening ceremony took place on June 11.

The vehicles

Model of a T6 vehicle
An original vehicle in June 2014

Vehicles of the Translohr STE6 type are used on the T6 route. The first of 28 vehicles was presented in October 2013 at the newly built depot in Vélizy-Villacoublay. The delivery was completed in autumn 2014. The RATP approved the use of Translohr vehicles in September 2010. The six-part vehicles are 46 meters long and offer space for 250 passengers per set.

The advantages of the train are praised: a radius of gyration of 10.5 meters and the ability to cope with gradients of up to 13 percent. There are some narrow and winding sections to be traversed along the route. The maximum gradient is ten percent. It can be found in the exit from the underground section. The vehicles are expected to be able to maintain a cruising speed of 20 km / h and that the journey from one end point to the other will take 40 minutes.

Test drives on completed sections of the route and to test the behavior of the vehicles on the open road and at higher speeds began in February 2014. Until April 2014, initially only the route between the Robert Wagner stops and the Leclerc division was used. The test route was then extended to the eastern terminus.

Depot

This tunnel is used to access the depot

The depot is called Site de Maintenance et Remisage (SMR) and was built on a 25,000 square meter site in the municipality of Vélizy-Villacoublay , south of the A86 ring road . In addition to the workshops, a car wash and track systems for up to 32 Translohr sets, the route control center Poste de Commandement de Ligne (PCL) is also located here .

(Expected) passenger numbers

The planners expect up to 82,000 passengers per day. After commissioning the entire route, even 90,000. In the rush hour it should be up to 12,300 per hour. The operating time starts at 5 a.m. and ends around midnight. During rush hour the cars run every four minutes, otherwise every seven minutes.

Adaptation of the bus routes

With the start of operations on line 6 , the deployment plan was adjusted to 32 bus routes, including three night bus routes . In some cases, the route was also changed.
