Clamart is a French city with 52,971 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the south-west of Paris . It is located ten kilometers southwest of the capital on the D 906 .
The city consists of two parts, which are largely separated from each other by the Bois de Clamart (Clamart forest): Bas-Clamart , which forms the historical center, and Petit-Clamart , where most of the more modern buildings are located. Before the 1960s there were pea fields here, which were then built over.
history
The oldest evidence of settlement in the region is a megalithic grave from 6000 BC. Chr.
The first mention of the place comes from the end of the 7th century, at that time still in the form of "Claumar" or "Clanmar". In its present form, the name appears for the first time in documents from the 11th century.
On March 27, 1794, the famous philosopher and protagonist of the French Revolution, Condorcet, was arrested in a pub in Clamart while fleeing from an arrest warrant from the Jacobins .
The first aerial photos of the world, taken from a balloon by Nadar in 1858, were views of Petit-Clamart (which was then still called Petit-Bicêtre).
In the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, battles took place here on October 13, 1870 and January 10, 1871 during the siege of Paris .
On August 22, 1962 Petit-Clamart was the site of the failed assassination attempt of the OAS against Charles de Gaulle in connection with the willingness of the French government, Algeria to independence dismissed. The Bestsellers - novel Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth is the circumstances of the attack.
In 1961 there was a catastrophic subsidence due to the collapse of underground limestone quarries with 21 dead.

À la clamartoise means a court , the fresh as a garnish green peas has. Clamart used to own large pea fields, the quality of which was famous.
Clamart has been the location of several films, including The Fabulous World of Amélie .
The first French test tube baby , Amandine, was born in the Antoine-Béclère hospital in Petit-Clamart on February 24, 1982 .
Bas-Clamart became famous in 2004 for the Percy military hospital in the city, where Yasser Arafat died on November 11th after a serious illness.
