Fontenay-aux-Roses is a city located southwest of Paris with 24,564 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hauts-de-Seine department in the Île-de-France region . The distance to the center of Paris is about nine kilometers. With the municipalities of Bagneux , Clamart and Malakoff , the city is a member of the Communauté d'agglomération Sud de Seine . In addition to Bagneux and Clamart, the municipalities of Châtillon , Le Plessis-Robinson and Sceaux border directly on the urban area.
In the 17th century, Fontenay was the exclusive supplier of the roses that gave it its name to the court of Louis XIV. Before moving to Lyon , Fontenay was the seat of an école normal supérieure for female students.
On November 27, 1960, the French painter, sculptor and performance artist Yves Klein undertook his famous leap into the void on Rue Gentil-Bernard in Fontenay-aux-Roses , a performance photographed by Harry Shunk and John Kender.
The French Atomic Energy Agency ( CEA) has a nuclear research center in Fontenay.
Fontenay is connected to the public rail network with a station on the RER B local transport line .

Town twinning
One of the twin cities of Fontenay-aux-Roses is the German city of Wiesloch in Baden-Württemberg . Both cities have been running this partnership since 1974; Every year, delegations from both cities visit each other to further expand this partnership.
Further partnerships have existed since 1982 with the city of Elstree-Borehamwood in Hertfordshire ( Great Britain ) and since 2003 with Antananarivo , the capital of Madagascar .
