history
Plessis was first mentioned in a document as Plessiacus in 839. The first church building was started in 1112. In 1250 Plessiacus became Plessis-Raoul .
The first castle of Plessis was built in 1412 by Jean de la Haye or Piquet de la Haye as a summer residence; after this the place was called Le Plessis-Piquet until the 20th century . The first mayor ( Antoine Moullé ) was elected in 1790. In 1793 the municipality of Plessis-Piquet was renamed Le Plessis-Liberté , but got its old name back in 1801. Jaime Odier bought the castle in 1827 and was mayor of Plessis from 1829 to 1831.
In 1848, the innkeeper Ernest Gueusquin, who was enthusiastic about Robinson Crusoe, opened a restaurant in Plessis which he called “Au grand Robinson” (To the great Robinson). Soon thousands of Parisians came to this and other newly opened eateries to dine, drink and dance.
In 1854 the famous publisher Louis Hachette bought the castle and the land. He later became mayor and city councilor. Finally, the commune was officially renamed Le Plessis-Robinson in 1910 at the instigation of the then mayor Paul Jaudé.
