Ferdinand Lot
Ferdinand Lot (born September 20, 1866 in Le Plessis Piquet , † July 20, 1952 in Fontenay-aux-Roses ) was a French historian . His research dealt with the Middle Ages .
Life
After studying at the École nationale des chartes under Arthur Giry , he became Maître de conférences at the University of Paris in 1909 (Faculté des lettres de Paris). He became a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres in 1924 and a corresponding member of the British Academy in 1935 . In his remarks he turned against the historical materialism and the romantic view of history of Augustin Thierry , but supported the critical view of Charles Seignobos and Charles-Victor Langlois . For Lot, a political regime can perish because of the principles that gave it power.
