The mountain Qeili (mostly Jebel Qeili , alternative spellings : Djebel Qeili , Jebel Keheili , Jabal Keheili , Jabal Qeli and similar; the first word is the transcription for the Arabic word mountain) is a former volcanic mountain in eastern Sudan .

geography

Qeili is located around 150 km east of Khartoum in the Butana region , which is largely dominated by desert.

It rises 539 m above mean sea level , making it the highest point in the Qeili volcano complex .

This granite formation was initially a volcano and was created by a cauldron collapse in the geological period of the Ordovician . After the collapse of two sections, only a large elevation, Mount Qeili, and a semicircular smaller ridge of the volcano mountain remained.

Recent history

The southernmost evidence of the kingdom of Kush was found here , including a rock carving, which is a monument to victory for Shorakaror and a cave with images of the gods of Amun , Mut and perhaps Chons on the ceiling.
