Patlabor 1 ( Japanese 機動 警察 パ ト レ イ バ ー 劇場版 , Kidō keisatsu patorebā Gekijōban , German "Mobile Police (group) Patlabor: The Movie") is an anime film from 1989 , which is based on the manga series Kidō Keisatsu Patlabor by Masami Yūki based. The science fiction film was directed by Mamoru Oshii . The animations are from Studio Deen .

action

In Japan around the year 2000, special robots are used by the military, the police or in high-rise construction. These robots are called laboratories (in German [the] "workers"), those of the police are called patlabor (short for patrol laboratories ). The robots are manufactured in the Arche , a high and wide manufacturing facility that consists of several levels and is located in the middle of the sea.

In Tokyo there is a strange series of rampages in some laboratories. The only thing these robots have in common seems to be a new operating system , the HOS - Hyper Operating System . It turns out that the developer of this operating system is responsible for the problems himself: he programmed a virus that is difficult to remove from the laboratories and that triggers the rampage.

The police also found that the rampages were limited to certain parts of the city. In their search for the cause, they find out that there are special buildings (high-rise buildings, bridges) in these parts of the city. Due to the way they are built, these buildings produce sounds that are inaudible to humans. Apparently the developer was planning a global rampage of all laboratory robots working with the new operating system.

The trigger for this event is said to be a typhoon , which is supposed to set the huge Arche factory vibrating due to the open construction method and to vibrate other buildings through the resonance vibration. The high frequencies generated by these buildings are supposed to trigger the rampage in the laboratories.

Because the typhoon is about to hit Tokyo, the police don't have time to check the theory. The safest solution is to destroy the ark . The developer foresaw this possibility and infected the ark's computer with the virus, but the police can destroy the ark using an emergency destruction system.
