Patlabor 2 - The Movie ( Japanese 機動 警察 パ ト レ イ バ ー 2 the Movie, Kidō keisatsu patorebā 2 the Movie ) is an anime film from 1993 , which, like its predecessor Patlabor 1, is based on a manga series by Masami Yūki . As with the first film, Mamoru Oshii directed the science fiction film . The animations are from Production IG .
action
In Japan around the year 2000, special robots are used by the military, the police or in high-rise construction. These robots are called laboratories , in the case of the police they are called patlabs (short for patrol laboratories ).
A rocket attack is carried out on Yokohama Bay Bridge . Since a military aircraft can be seen on random video recordings of passers-by, suspicion initially falls on the military. Arakawa , Army Independent Investigation Officer, brings the police more detailed intelligence: they point to a Japanese-US organization called the National Defense Family. The plane was also an American fighter pilot, but since there is no clear evidence and the Americans publicly deny everything, the Japanese Air Force is the only culprit. When the police surround an air base after another incident, a computer-simulated attack on Tokyo, a civil war threatens. Further attacks on bridges and a sham poison gas attack in Tokyo with attack helicopters and zeppelins follow.
Captain Kiichi Gotoh notices that the whole thing looks like a military coup, but nobody has taken responsibility or made demands. The government has also brought troops loyal to the government to crucial places. A coup is therefore hopeless.
Arakawa brings the crucial tip that he received from an American secret service: the perpetrators' operations center. Gotoh now notices that Arakawa is too well informed from the start. Apparently he also belongs to the "family for national defense", but has fallen out with them and is now trying to stop them without being convicted himself. Arakawa is arrested and the operations center is stormed.
