Middle car
Intermediate cars are called rail vehicles that are designed to run in the middle of a train composition . The most common form of solid train composition is the trainset , wherein the middle carriage between the end cars (for example, between the control carriage and engine head during the ICE 2 are) queued. Deutsche Bundesbahn and Deutsche Reichsbahn used the official series designations EM (intermediate car to electric railcar) and VM (intermediate car to internal combustion engine) for these vehicles until 1968 and 1970, respectively. These were vehicles without a drive. In modern multiple units, however, the intermediate cars often have their own drive, which is why they have company numbers from the group of multiple units (e.g. DB class 421 and DB class 605 ).
Intermediate cars are less common on trams . These are usually sidecars that are lined up between two railcars, which is why they are sometimes also called center sidecars .
