planning

The first agreements with the local authorities involved will take place in autumn 2000. Two years later, STIF gives its general approval. A public hearing will be held in the winter of 2003/04. In December 2006, STIF approved the financial agreements that had meanwhile been made.

In February 2009 the line was given the official number “7”.

construction

The first preparatory construction work took place between February 2009 and summer 2011. This involved laying supply lines, felling trees, adjusting traffic routing, setting up pedestrian islands.

The first rails were laid from the end of June 2011 after the orders for the vehicles had already been awarded at the beginning of the same year.

After the completion of the construction work and about one year after the delivery of the first vehicles, test drives were carried out on the completed sections of the route, and since mid-October 2013 on the entire route and taking into account the timetable - but still without passengers. Regular operation began on November 16, 2013.

The first section is 11.2 km long. All 18 stops are handicapped accessible. The line is intended to facilitate traffic within the suburbs and essentially follows the N7 national road , which, incidentally, has been downgraded to the D7 departmental road. It leaves the north-south direction only in the middle section to ensure the connection of important places: Rungis wholesale market , Rungis industrial areas and SILIC with 350 companies and 16,000 jobs, shopping centers, RER train station and Orly airport. The power supply is ensured by six transformer substations.

Large numbers of pines and holm oaks are planted along the route. The route is as far as possible as a green track running, planted with sedum ( stonecrop ), a plant that barely requires maintenance.

The southern section

An extension of the route by 3.7 km to the south will lead the line to Juvisy station . The route leads through a 900 m long tunnel. Construction work is scheduled to start in mid-2015; Commencement of traffic in 2018. A total of six new stops will be built, one of them underground at a depth of 17 m.

Future connections to the Metro network

At the moment there is only a change to line 7.

Later transfer options will be added as part of the Grand Paris Express : from 2020 a station on line 15 will be created at the Villejuif - Louis-Aragon stop. Only after 2020 will there be connections to lines 14 and 18 at the Aéroport d'Orly stop.

The vehicles

19 low-floor trams of the Alstom Citadis 302 type are used on the route , they are each 32 m long and offer space for 200 passengers with only 54 seats. During rush hour, the trains run every 5 minutes.

After the expansion of the 2nd section, 30 articulated trains will be used. The clock interval should then be shortened to four minutes.

Depot

The depot under construction (as of August 2012)

A 24,000 m² site in the Vitry-sur-Seine area was acquired for the maintenance and parking of the vehicles. An administration and technology center was built here, which fulfills all the important functions for operating a tram line: operations control center, offices, training rooms, workshops, train washing facilities, sidings. The buildings were built according to the most modern requirements and can benefit from the quality of their thermal insulation , the use of rainwater, and waste water recycling. classified as “Bâtiment Basse Consommation” ( low energy house ).
