The Route nationale 7 , or N 7 for short or RN 7 , also called Route Bleue , is a French national road that was established in 1824 between Paris and the then border with the county of Nice near Saint-Laurent-du-Var. It goes back to the route impériale 8 leading to Rome . The length was 979 kilometers. In 1828 the section between Brignoles and Grasse was removed from the national road network. The N7 was led over the route of the N95 and part of the N97 to Antibes. In this area the route has been numbered twice. The piece between Grasse and Antibes was added to the N85. The piece between Brignoles and Grasse became the D20 (from 1895 Gc120) of the Var department. This part was stepped down in 1870 by relocating the route from the N85 to the D15 to Cagnes-sur-Mer. This changed the length of the N7 to 963 kilometers. In 1860 it was extended to the Italian border at Ventimiglia , where it merges into Strada Statale 1 “Via Aurelia” to Rome since 1928 (1923–1928 under Strada nazionale 3 'Tirrena Superiore' with the same route), since the county of Nice is part of France became. Their length increased to 1005 kilometers. In the 19th century, some bridges to the N86 on the other side of the river in the Rhône Valley became branches of the N7. These had no number until 1933 and were then assigned to newly established national roads or designated as side branches of the N86. In 1904 a road was built on the Mediterranean shore between Fréjus and Mandelieu-la-Napoule and the N7 passed over it. In 1933 this section went to the N98, and the N7 finally ran inland via the route of the N97. This coastline increased the length by 9 kilometers to 1014 kilometers during this period. In 1911, the N7 on the Grande Corniche (or Corniche Supérieure ) was downgraded to Gc37, as a new route a little below ( Moyenne Corniche ) was under construction on which the N7 was to be laid. Because construction was delayed by the First World War and a major upgrade reform took place in 1933, the Grande Corniche became the N7 again and the Moyenne Corniche became the N564. In 1933 the double numbering between Brignoles and Antibes and with it the N97 disappeared for good. Furthermore, in 1933 the old route between Brignoles and Grasse was upgraded to national roads (554, 562, 557 and 567). In 1973, the N7 was relocated from the Grande Corniche to the Moyenne Corniche between Nice and Menton, which had been planned 60 years earlier . The tiered Grande Corniche became the D2564. In 2006, several sections of the N7 were staggered so that today it only exists in several sections. Today the road runs through the grounds of Orly Airport, where it passes under the reception building and the taxiways in a tunnel. From Nevers to Moulins, the N7 is to be replaced by the A77 in the future.

N 7a

The first N7 A was built in 1860 on the lower coastal road between Nice and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin parallel to the N7 when the county of Nice became part of France. In 1933 a new N7 A was signposted within Fontainebleau, as the main axes ran along the outskirts. This was graduated in 1973 and is now a municipal road. From 1962 to 1978 there was a second N7 A in Montélimar. This became part of the N7 and then graduated in 1981.

N 7b

The Route nationale 7 B , or N 7 B or RN 7 B for short , was a branch of the N7 within Fontainebleau from 1933 to 1973. Today it is part of the D417.
