EU border crossing France - Switzerland
Street as H2

The N19 is a French national road that was established in 1824 between the N5 in Alfortville and the Swiss border near Basel-Burgfelden. It goes back to route 22 impériale. Its length was 489 kilometers. In 1837 it was extended to Paris via Porte de la Gare. At the Swiss border, it turns into Hauptstrasse 2, which crosses all of Switzerland to the Italian border near Chiasso and crosses the Gotthard Pass, among other things. In Italy the street continues as Strada Statale 35 to Genoa. During the Second World War it was established as part of Reichsstraße 34 in the occupied territory. In 1978 it was taken along the N19 bis to the Swiss border. The section between Belfort and the N69 was graduated and from the N69 to the Swiss border became part of the N266. In 2006 it was graduated between the city limits of Paris and the new N406, as well as between the Francilienne and Langres. Another gradation concerned the section beginning in the Territoire-de-Belfort up to the Swiss border, as the N1019 is being built, which will later become the N19 as soon as it is between the Swiss A6 and the current end of the N19 at Belfort.

N1019

The N1019 is a doubling of the N19. It is being built as an expressway between the Swiss A16 and the D438 of the Haute-Saône department and runs parallel to the stepped route of the N19bis between Belfort and Delle. As soon as it is complete, it will be renumbered to the N19 along with the D438 expressway.
