The Route nationale 125 , or N 125 or RN 125 for short , is a French national road .

Current course of the road

The current national road 125 leads from Gourdan-Polignan to the Spanish border and has a total length of 28 kilometers.

Historic course of the road

The historic national road 125 was established in 1824 between Portet-sur-Garonne and the Hospice de France in the Vallée de la Pique and goes back to the route impériale 145. Their route was interrupted by the national road 117 . The total length was 106.5 kilometers. South of the Hospice de France is the pass 'Port de Venasque' with an altitude of 2,444 meters. On the Spanish side, the Peña plan, published around 1940, envisaged leading the C-139 coming from Barbastro onto the pass and attempting to close the gap with the N125. In 1973 the section between Portet-sur-Garonne and Saint-Martory was taken over by the national road 117 and in 1978 a new route for the national road 125 was put together from the following roads to the Spanish border:

In 2006, the section between Montréjeau and the end of the 645 motorway was graduated. In 2009, the route on the left bank of the Garonne was graded and Départementsstraße 33 of the Haute-Garonne department on the right of the Garonne was upgraded to the N 125.
