The Route nationale 88 , or N 88 or RN 88 for short , is a French national road .

history

The road was divided into two parts by the national road 9 between Givros and Toulouse in 1824. It goes back to route 106 impériale . Their total length was 466 kilometers. While its route ran via Langogne until 1840, the national road was then led via Chapeauroux . The length increased by 14 kilometers. In 1978 the street was redesigned in sections; as a result, the discontinued sections were graded in 1973:

  • N 88 Givors - junction with N 102
  • N 102 junction with N 88 - junction with N 106
  • N 106 junction with N 102 - Langogne
  • N 500 Langogne - Châteauneuf-de-Randon
  • N 88 Châteauneuf-de-Randon - Le Monastier-Pin-Moriès- Les Ajustons
  • interrupted by N 9
  • N 595 Sévérac-le-Château - Rodez
  • N 88 Rodez - Toulouse

In 2006 the sections of the N 88, which ran parallel to the motorways, were then graded.

State of development

The national road between Saint-Chamond and Le Puy has been almost completely converted into a dual carriageway; the second bridge over the Vallée du Lignon is not yet in place, so there are no separate lanes there. A bypass road is currently being built to the east around Le Puy, on which the N 88 will be relocated upon completion in order to relieve the streets in Le Puy. Completion is scheduled for 2018 [obsolete] .

Side branches

N 88a

The Route nationale 88 A , or N 88 A or RN 88 A for short , was a branch of the N88 that arose from it when it was moved to a bypass road from Terrenoire and a new access road to Saint-Étienne.

N 388

The current Route nationale 388 , N 388 or RN 388 for short , is a branch of the N 88 that has no connection with it. The road connects the Autobahn 47 , which has replaced the N 88, between junctions 8 and 9 as a bridge over the Rhône at Givors. This means that it is also possible for vehicles to cross the Rhône at this point that are not allowed on motorways.

N 488

The current Route nationale 488 , or N 488 or RN 488 for short , is an access road to Saint-Étienne that has been developed as an expressway. It was established in 1957. The N 88 initially ran on this route. In 1978 this route was given the new number.

N 2088

As Route nationale 2088 , N 2088 for short or RN 2088 , the old N 88 through-roads were referred to when they were relocated to a bypass road around the town, or for the old route when a parallel expressway was created over a longer distance:

  • Section Monistrol-sur-Loire - Saint-Maurice-de-Lignon (D 461 & D 908)
  • Passage through Sévérac-le-Château (D 888)
  • Recoules-Prévinquières through-town (VC)
  • La Primaube through the town (D 888)
  • Section La Baraque-Saint-Jean - Tanus (D 888 & D 988)
  • Carmaux through-town (D 988)
