The Département Tarn (pronunciation [ taʁn ] or [ taːʁ ]) is the French département with the serial number 81. It is named after the river Tarn and is located in the Occitania region in the south of the country. The region is dominated by agriculture. The capital is Albi , the birthplace of the painter Toulouse-Lautrec .

geography

The Tarn department borders on the Aveyron , Hérault , Aude , Haute-Garonne and Tarn-et-Garonne departments .

history

The department was formed on March 4, 1790 from parts of the Languedoc province .

It belonged to the Midi-Pyrénées region from 1960 to 2015 , which was added to the Occitania region in 2016 .
