Attractions
Norman hedges and pastures, apple trees, mansions and noble horses characterize this part of Normandy . The Normans themselves like to relax in the thermal spa town of Bagnoles-de-l'Orne , which is surrounded by a 7,000 hectare forest called “Forêt d'Andaine”. Orne is home to one of the most famous French national studs, the Haras du Pin . In addition to breeding first-class horses, such as the Percheron cold-blooded breed, it is known for its castle-like architecture from the 18th century. In culinary terms, Orne stands for the Camembert cheese , which comes from the Camembert des Départements town of the same name . Another specialty is Poiré (German pear must), which is made from pears.
