Dolmen de la Gione

The Dolmen de la Gione is located in Tessé-la-Madeleine near La Ferté-Macé , in the Orne department in Normandy in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The severely disturbed dolmen is about 1.6 km west of La Croix Gautier on the GR22, but has been restored. It appears to be the remains of a large dolmen, but with only three large slabs remaining, it is difficult to determine. One stone stood upright with a relocated capstone at its edge, another slab a few meters away. The large capstone measures approximately 3.0 × 2.5 m and is 0.5 m thick. The three stones were put together to form an ensemble that cannot claim to be original. A wall of unknown age and function surrounds the forest road.

There is a legend about the stone that is written on a small plaque on site. Then it is about the old fairy Gione, who tormented the local farmers and died in the dolmen after the intervention of a priest.
