La Ferte-Mace is a village and a former French commune with last 5,412 inhabitants (1 January 2015) in Orne in the region of Normandy . It belonged to the canton of Magny-le-Désert in the Arrondissement of Alençon . The inhabitants are called Fertois .
With effect from January 12, 2016, the former municipalities of La Ferté-Macé and Antoigny were merged to form the Commune nouvelle La Ferté Macé ( spelling without a hyphen! ), Which has almost the same name . Only the integrated municipality of Antoigny has the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality .
Population development
From 1793 to 1876 the population rose continuously from 3,474 to 9,769. Since then, it has fallen again - to currently below 6,000 inhabitants.
Attractions
The Dolmen de la Gione is located in Tessé-la-Madeleine near La Ferté-Macé. An old Romanesque church and a toy museum are attractive to tourists. The parish is part of the Normandy-Maine Regional Nature Park .
