Gérard Burel

Gérard Burel (born February 2, 1935 in La Coulonche , Orne department , † January 27, 2012 in La Ferté-Macé , Orne department) was a French politician.

Burel, who worked full-time as a veterinarian in Flers , moved into the municipal council of Messei in the Orne department in 1965 . Five years later he was elected to the General Council. From 1978 to 2001 he was mayor of Messeis. In 1993 Burel was elected President of the General Council. He held this office until 2007 when he resigned and was replaced by Alain Lambert . In the same year he became a member of the Conseil économique, social et environnemental for the Basse-Normandie region . Burel was a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
