In 1935 begins Nazi regime , the Treaty of Versailles to undermine. Reich Aviation Minister Hermann Göring announces the establishment of the Air Force ; the former Reichswehr is converted into the Wehrmacht . To "regain military sovereignty ", general conscription is reintroduced; With the German-British naval agreement , in which the British Parliament is bypassed by exchanging diplomatic notes, the strength of the German Navy , which is renamed from Reichsmarine to Kriegsmarine , is set at a maximum of 35% of the Royal Navy . This is part of the armament of the Wehrmacht .

Ballot for the Saar vote on January 13, 1935

After a referendum , the League of Nations gives the Saar area back to the German Reich with effect from March 1st , which is referred to by the propaganda there as “ home to the Reich ”. The Saarland is directly subordinate to the Reich leadership and a Reich Commissioner is appointed for the reorganization of the Saar area.

Domestically, the racial ideology of the Nazi regime is legally enshrined in the Nuremberg Laws . For the first time the term “ Jew ” is legally defined; With the law for the protection of German blood and German honor , marriage and sexual contact between Jews and non-Jews are prohibited and made a criminal offense. This prohibition of “ racial disgrace ” is subsequently extended to “ gypsies , negroes and their bastards” by means of a regulation . With the Reich Citizenship Law , Jews are also deprived of their citizenship rights . In these laws and in the tightening of § 175 RStGB, which criminalizes homosexual acts between men, the National Socialist image of women is also evident . With the introduction of the German Municipal Code of January 30, 1935, the previously federally structured municipal constitutional law of the German states is abolished in favor of a centralized regulation.

Italy is now trying to expand its colonial empire . After a first attempt , the kingdom of Abyssinia to conquer failed in 1896, which explains fascist regime of Benito Mussolini Ethiopia again to war . The basis for this is the Franco-Italian Agreement , in which the two colonial powers delimit their spheres of influence in Africa.

In China , during the civil war at the Zunyi conference, there was a power struggle within the Communist Party , won by Mao Zedong , whose “ Long March ” ended after a year in Yan'an .

In Thailand , King Rama VII abdicates in protest against what he considers to be the undemocratic actions of the government and is followed by his nine-year-old nephew Rama VIII . The Philippines are granted independence as a Commonwealth by the colonial power USA . And the Chaco War ends in South America , after which the victor Paraguay almost doubled its national territory by winning the Gran Chaco at the expense of Bolivia .

In the field of science, the Austrian Nobel Prize winner Erwin Schrödinger uses a thought experiment to bring a cat into the simultaneous state of life and death to demonstrate the incompleteness of quantum mechanics . A polygraph is being tested in America for the first time and Wallace Hume Carothers is granted a patent for the nylon he has developed .

The US athlete Jesse Owens sets five new world records within 45 minutes in Ann Arbor , Michigan, and equalizes one more. This is received as the highlight of the sports year .
