Sol Kerzner

Solomon Solenoid Kerzner (born August 23, 1935 in Johannesburg ; † March 21, 2020 in Cape Town ) was a South African entrepreneur and hotel magnate.

Kerzner was born in Troyeville, Johannesburg, the youngest of four children of Jewish Russian immigrants. His family founded the hotel chain Sun International , which he took over after completing his business studies and made it one of the most successful in South Africa. The company also owned the Sun City leisure complex , which was built in what was then the homeland of Bophuthatswana . Kerzner owned, among other things, the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island , Bahamas , which is one of the largest hotel and casino resorts in the world. It has increased the value of the resort eight times since it was purchased for $ 125 million, to an estimated $ 2 billion. One of his most recent projects is the Atlantis The Palm, Dubai , which opened in September 2008 and has 1539 rooms.
