José Enrique del Monte

José Enrique del Monte Peguero (born June 18, 1935 in Santo Domingo ) is a Dominican choir director and composer.

Del Monte studied at the Conservatorio Nacional and received the title of professor there in 1966. In 1968 and 1971 he attended courses for orchestral conducting, which Enrique García Asensio conducted in the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Santo Domingo. In 1970 he took part in Arpach Darabs' international choir conducting course at the Conservatorio de Venezuela .

Since 1952 del Monte has been Kapellmeister at the Catedral Primada in Santo Domingo. With the church choir, which he founded in 1988, and the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional , he led a. a. the Polovtsian dances from Borodin's opera Prince Igor .

For fourteen years, del Monte headed the Coro Nacional of the Dominican Republic. He also founded u. a. the Choir of the Naval Cadets, the Choir of the Naval School of the Navy, the Women's Choir of the Policía Nacional and the Children's Choir of the Instituto San Juan Bautista . For the XII. Juegos Centroaméricanos y del Caribe founded and directed a choir with 300 members. He accompanied a mass that Pope John Paul II held in Santo Domingo in 1992 with a 500-member choir. In 1989 he was made an honorary citizen of Santo Domingo.
