Hakkı Atun

Hakkı Atun (* 1935 in Gazimağusa ) is a Cypriot-Turkish politician and founder and first chairman of the Democratic Party in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus . He was Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus from 1994 to 1996 .

Atun was born in 1935 in the village of Ergazi near Gazimağusa . In 1959 he completed his architecture studies at İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi . He specialized in urban planning at the Universities of Manchester and Nottingham . Between 1961 and 1975 he worked in the public service. In 1963 he was the head of town planning for the Limassol - Paphos region . In 1967 he became office manager for building planning and in 1975 he became state secretary for housing developments in the Turkish federal state of Cyprus .

In 1976, 1981, 1985 and 1990 he was elected to the Assembly of the Republic as a candidate for the Ulusal Birlik Partisi from the Lefkoşa district.
