The German three-cushion championship 1957 (DDM) was the 25th edition of this tournament series and took place from March 7th to 10th in Berlin .
history
In Berlin, August Tiedtke from Duisburg won his first three-cushion title in 1935 and in the “Juhre-Festsäle” on Nollendorfplatz he won his 14th title as German three-cushion champion, which was also his 25th German championship title.
For the first time, the championship was presented to the German television audience in a two and a half hour report.
It was the second championship that was played with ivory balls.
In the last regular group game, Frankfurt's Walter Lütgehetmann Tiedtke was able to take away the already believed victory with a 50:49 and so the two had to go into a playoff game to determine the champions. This time the Duisburg man prevailed and Lütgehetmann was again only the runner-up title, as in 1951 and 1955. The Düsseldorf Siegfried Spielmann came third on the podium. Defending champion Ernst Rudolph played strong as usual, but had to bow to Tiedtke, Lütgehetmann and Spielmann and so he only came in fourth place.
Among the guests was also the billiards enthusiast Berlin chamber singer Michael Bohnen . He was also given the honor of presenting the winner with the trophy he had donated himself. He did this with the words:
“This Venus is headless, this Venus is cold,
try to win it and you will soon find out!
The competition for this Venus is "ambition" of many.
It is now a triumph prize for three-cushion players.
And who wants to reward the best with this symbol?
The three-band singer Michael Bohnen. "
His Italian friend and colleague Benjamin Gigli had got him the statue .

It played "everyone against everyone" ( round-robin mode ) to 50 points with a push .
