The German Three Cushion Championship 1968/69 (DDM) was the 35th edition of this tournament series and took place from November 22nd to 24th, 1968 in Cologne , North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The organizer was the “Kölner Billard Club 08 e. V. ". The tournament directors were taken over by Josef Bolz and Mathias Metzemacher. Siegfried Spielmann , Ernst Rudolph and Gert Tiedtke automatically took part in the tournament as they were placed last year. Spielmann, whose top series (HS) has been unbeaten by 15 points since 1954, was again set as the favorite. Gerd's older brother and serial winner August Tiedtke did not take part in the tournament again. Last year's newcomer to the tournament, Dieter Häring from Berlin, was able to qualify again for the championship tournament during the season. In the previous year he played against Rudolf Apelt at "BC Berlin South", the two were now club colleagues at the "Berliner Billardfreunde (Bfr.) 1921".

Tournament course

Round 1

Tiedtke won his first game with 60:51 in 76 shots against Joseph Bücken from Aachen. In the Berlin duel, young player Häring was able to prevail against his team-mate Apelt with just 60:59 (92). The six-time champion Ernst Rudolph from Cologne suffered a defeat against his club-mate Erich Heinrichs in front of a home crowd (59: 60/79). Defending champion Spielmann from Düsseldorf had the longest game to play. Only after 102 shots did he win the match with a 6 point lead (60:54). After the first round of the game, Tiedtke was placed ahead of Heinrichs, Häring and Spielmann. Schüssler brought up the rear behind Apelt, Bücken and Rudolph.

round 2

In the fifth game, Haring was victorious again, this time against Bücken. The tournament series (HS) of 10 that he played did not prevent his second defeat (60: 54/71). In the local derby between Düsseldorf and Cologne neither player could prevail and so it was 60:60 for Spielmann and Rudolph after 73 shots. The runner-up Heinrichs was defeated by the penultimate Apelt with 57: 60/77, as did the table leader Tiedtke from Duisburg to the last with 51:60 in 96 shots. The table was now headed by Häring, followed by Spielmann, Apelt and Heinrichs. The lower half was made up of Tiedtke and Schüssler with two points each, Rudolph with a draw and the 1966 runner-up, Bücken, so far without a point.

Round 3

Bücken was finally able to leave the table victorious in the ninth game. He clearly beat Apelt with 60:46 (92). Heinrichs prevailed against Schüssler with 60:48 (28), Tiedtke was successful against Spielmann with 60:50 (75) and Rudolph also scored his first win against Häring with 60:53 (72). Häring lost his top position to Heinrichs, Tiedtke in third place and Rudolph in fourth place. The defending champion had to settle for fifth place, followed by Bücken, Apelt and Schüssler.

Round 4

The defending champion was successful again, albeit narrowly, this time against Apelt (60: 59/71). The best tournament match was played by old master Rudolph against Tiedtke when he sent him off the table with 60:54 in just 66 shots. Häring, who played strongly at the beginning of the tournament, suffered another defeat. His opponent Schüssler drew level with a 3 point lead (60: 57/97). Heinrichs didn't have much to oppose, either, and so he left the table after 85 shots with 49:60. Heinrichs was still leading in the table. Rudolph moved two places forward, followed by Spielmann and Tiedtke. Häring led the bottom half, Schüssler came from last place to seven, then Bücken and Apelt.

Round 5

Apelt could not score again in the first game of the fifth round. He lost against Tiedtke in 88 shots with 52:60 and, as the bronze winner in 1966, was finally booked as the bottom of the tournament. Spielmann managed the second best match of the tournament when he stooped in 68 shots with 60:46. Rudolph was successful against Schüssler, who played the worst game of the tournament. In 67 shots he only got 29 points. Haring was able to achieve another victory. He just beat Heinrichs with 60:59 (78). He was now level on points with Heinrichs, who lost his top position to Rudolph. Spielmann second, Tiedtke fourth.

Round 6

Bücken won the first game of this round with 60:51 (83) against Schüssler. Rudolph, like against Spielmann, did not get beyond a draw (60.60 / 88) against the bottom of the table Apelt. Heinrichs was able to beat Tiedtke with 60:39 (78) and Häring beat the favorite Spielmann quite clearly with 60:47 in 81 shots. Before the start of the final round, Rudolph, Heinrichs and Häring were now in the lead with eight points each. Then Spielmann, Tiedtke Bücken, Schüssler and Apelt.

Final round

In the seventh and final round, Apelt could not convince again and lost 54:60 (82) against Schüssler. Häring was victorious against Tiedtke with 60:57 (90) and was the new German three-cushion champion . It should remain his only title. Last year's winner Siegfried Spielmann became runner-up and the bronze went to Ernst Rudolph.

mode

It played "everyone against everyone" ( round robin mode ) to 60 points with a push .
