The German three- cushion championship 1959/1 (DDM) was the 26th edition of this tournament series and took place from February 26th to March 1st in Mitterteich , Bavaria .
history
For the first time in the history of the German Championship, the game distance was increased to 60 points. It was also the first time since 1950 that Ernst Rudolph did not take part in the championship.
How it came about that the small Upper Palatinate porcelain town with only about 5000 inhabitants became the venue is unknown. "King August", as serial winner August Tiedtke has meanwhile been called, won his 15th title at this tournament. Rudolph Apelt from Berlin only had to admit defeat to Tiedtke and Joseph Bücken and became runner-up. Bücken and Werner Müller from the Frankfurt Billard Club were tied at the end (8: 8), so that the general average (GD) decided on the placement in the fourth decimal place. Tiedtke again got the best performances in the GD and the individual average (ED), even twice, once against Erich Noppeney from Aachen and once against Kurt Hartkopf from Solingen. The tournament didn't go so well for his younger brother Gert . Somehow he couldn't find his rhythm and ended up just penultimate.
The DBB president at the time, Karlheinz Krienen, was so enthusiastic about the tournament, as were the players and spectators, that he even held out the prospect of hosting an international tournament. It did not come to that, however, and so it remained the only major tournament in town.
During the break from the tournament, the players had the opportunity to visit the local billiards club, the local china factory and other sights organized by the organizer.
mode
It played "everyone against everyone" ( round robin mode ) to 60 points with a push .
