The Saar Billiards Association, as the local organizer, had organized the three-cushion championship in the club rooms of BC 1921 Elversberg.
A new game system was launched for the German championships. First three regional qualification tournaments were played. The respective winners and the defending champion contested the final tournament. In Elversberg, as expected, there was another duel between the two best German three-cushion players in the final. This time the Berliner Dieter Müller was ahead again. In the decisive third set, Günter Siebert was already leading with 24:20 and was unable to save the lead at the finish. He still lost with 24:25.
